Hospital News
A growing number of Canadians are opting for home-based care through Hospital-at-Home (HaH) programs, as they seek a more comfortable and convenient alternative to in-hospital stays. A recent survey by Vivalink, conducted with over 500 Canadians aged 40 and older, found that nearly 90% of respondents would be likely to participate in HaH if it meant they could return home sooner.
Among those who have participated, 81% reported positive experiences. The survey also revealed that comfort and convenience were key motivators for choosing HaH, with nearly 70% of respondents citing them as primary reasons. While HaH programs are still expanding, provinces like British Columbia are leading the way in integrating these services, offering acute-level care for conditions like cancer, cardiac issues, and diabetes at home.
The growth of HaH programs highlights a shift toward patient-centered care, offering a solution to healthcare capacity challenges while improving patient outcomes. As healthcare continues to evolve, HaH is expected to play a pivotal role in the future of Canadian healthcare.
